Property developer CALA Homes has today signed a new partnership agreement with “full fibre” (FTTP/B) UK ISP Hyperoptic, which will result in residents of CALA’s new build home developments in West Scotland being offered “day one access to gigabit broadband speeds“.

The City of London Corporation has informed ISPreview.co.uk that they last week sent a letter to the heads of various agencies across the area. This seeks to encourage take-up of ultrafast FTTP broadband and highlights Openreach’s (BT) concern about the challenge of getting access permission from landlords.

Fibre optic network builder Cityfibre has today launched the Coppersaurus campaign, which aims to draw attention to the UK’s “prehistoric broadband” and support their court case to end “misleading” uses of “fibre” terminology in ISP adverts (i.e. when it’s used to describe slower hybrid copper and fibre connections).

The City of London Corporation have announced that their new deal with UK ISPs Community Fibre, Hyperoptic and Vision Fibre Media has just resulted in two social housing estates (‘Avondale Square’ and ‘Southwark’) being upgraded to deliver a 1Gbps capable FTTH broadband network. A Censuswide survey of 3,422 home broadband ISP users has found support for Cityfibre’s legal challenge of the current UK advertising rules, which they say “misleadingly” allows so-called hybrid fibre ISPs to promote their services as being “fibre optic” despite using slower metallic cables (e.g. copper).

The boss of Openreach (BT), Clive Selley, has expressed concern over the delays being caused to their rollout of 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP/H) broadband ISP services across the UK City of London, which is partly due to the challenge of getting permission (wayleaves) from landlords.
