Network provider Openreach (BT) has announced that 227 new UK locations – 250,000 premises – are being added to the roll-out phase of their 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP technology, which this time appears to focus on some of the “harder to reach” villages, market towns and rural areas.

The Northampton Borough Council (NCC) has reached a new master wayleave (access) and datacentre agreement that will help to boost Cityfibre’s on-going £40 million roll-out of a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network in the town, which is being supported by UK ISP partner Vodafone.

The latest report from Point Topic has revealed that global fixed broadband subscribers grew by 2.17% (23.6 million) in Q3 2019 to total 1.112 billion. During the past year copper (ADSL etc.) based lines fell by 7.7% while almost every other technology, particularly FTTH and fixed wireless connectivity, grew.

Rural full fibre broadband ISP Gigaclear has today formally launched their new in-home Smart Wi-Fi “mesh solution” for customers, which harnesses the new Velop router from Linksys and makes it possible to easily extend the wireless network signal by adding a series of linked repeater nodes into the network.

Cityfibre’s £30m project to roll-out a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network across Southend-on-Sea, which is being supported by UK ISP partner Vodafone (with TalkTalk to follow later), has officially started to go live for new customers in the large Essex based town.

Libert Global is progressing their plans to launch a new “full fibre” broadband network – Liberty Networks – that will be independent of their existing Virgin Media brand in the United Kingdom. The cable giant has just put in a related application for Code Powers with Ofcom, which usually happens before a roll-out begins.

UK ISP Zzoomm, which has an ambition to cover 1 million homes with a 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network by the end of 2025 (here), has today put its new service live for homes to join its network in the Oxfordshire town of Henley-on-Thames.

UK ISP TalkTalk has today confirmed that their wholesale full fibre (FTTH) broadband network sibling – FibreNation – has been sold to the Goldman Sachs backed Cityfibre for £200m cash. In response Cityfibre has increased their fibre optic roll-out plan from 5 million UK premises by 2025 to 8 million.

The CEO of BT Group, Philip Jansen, has proposed a new framework, which could see builders of “full fibre” (FTTP) broadband ISP networks working together in the final 20-30% of hardest to reach premises to maximise coverage, such as by avoiding overbuild in areas that can’t support multiple networks and sharing access.

The new Infrastructure Commission for Scotland (ICS) has this morning published a blueprint for their proposed 30-year infrastructure strategy, which among other things calls on the Scottish Government (SG) to ensure the delivery of a “full fibre” (FTTP) broadband ISP network to cover all of the country 2027.

On top of that they have plans in place that should see this grow to 370,000 homes via 40 of London’s largest landlords.

The deployment is costing £20m and will ultimately cover around 60,000 local premises.
