A new report created jointly by the Independent Networks Co-operative Association (INCA), UKWISPA and Point Topic has estimated that alternative network ISPs had expanded the reach of FTTP/H/B based “full fibre” ultrafast broadband networks to 998,500 premises at the end of 2017.

Alternative UK ISP Community Fibre appears to be extending their “full fibre” (FTTP/H) broadband network in the London Borough of Wandsworth to include local a business district, as well as council homes, which is being undertaken alongside the local authority, BIID, OLBC etc.

The business division of residential ISP TalkTalk, which is naturally called TalkTalk Business, has announced that they’ve started a trial of 330Mbps capable hybrid fibre G.fast broadband technology for Wholesale and Partner customers. The commercial launch will then follow sometime this “summer“.

The past 24 months have been awash with announcements about “full fibre” (FTTP/H) broadband network builds across the United Kingdom, which can sometimes make it a little bit difficult to keep track of all the developments (nice problem to have). So here’s a quick summary of the key plans.

The Local Government Association, which represents roughly 370 councils across England and Wales, has called on UK property developers to introduce a new FTTP Kitemark so that the public can easily see when a new build home is able to access Gigabit capable “full fibre” broadband ISP connections.

City focused fibre optic ISP Hyperoptic has discounted the price of their 30Mbps to 1000Mbps capable FTTP/B broadband packages for April 2018 (available around parts of 28 UK cities). Telcom Networks has chosen the 160km long ‘The Loop‘ fibre optic network from Gamma to deliver multi-Gigabit broadband and Ethernet data speeds to potentially hundreds of businesses across Manchester. Initially only 15 prominent buildings in the city centre will be connected but many more should follow.

Several local authorities in England, including Staffordshire, Devon and Somerset, have begun to consult on the next phase of their respective projects for expanding the coverage of “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) services. Thousands more premises and some FTTP is on the cards.

A meeting of the UK Wireless Internet Service Providers Association has named the four suppliers that are bidding on Scotland’s R100 project, which aspires to make “superfast broadband” (30Mbps+) available to 100% of the country by the end of 2021 (March 2022 as a financial year).

Rural fibre optic ISP Gigaclear has handed the civil engineering contract for deploying their 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network to 10,000 premises in West Oxfordshire (England) to Lite Access (international contractor). The rollout is due to complete by the end of 2019.

The joint £35m project between cable ISP WightFibre and Infracapital, which aims to deploy a new Gigabit capable ultrafast Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network to cover 53000 of the 61000 homes on the Isle of Wight (Hampshire, UK) by the end of 2022, has begun.

Fibre optic builder Cityfibre and ISP Vodafone have today announced that the next UK city to benefit from their joint deployment of a new 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH/P) broadband service will be Peterborough (Cambridgeshire), which is supported by an investment of “at least” £30m.

The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority in England has today proposed to invest a further £5.5 million into helping expand the availability of 300Mbps capable FTTP “full fibre” broadband, as well as improving Mobile (4G and 5G) and public WiFi coverage over the next 4 years.

Full fibre broadband ISP Community Fibre has today followed yesterday’s announcement (here) by signing a new agreement with the City of London Corporation, which will see their 1Gbps UK FTTH broadband network being extended to cover 2,800 residential properties in the area.
