UK ISP TrueSpeed, which is deploying a Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network into rural areas around South West England, has attempted to steal some of the thunder from BT’s new 100Mbps “speed guarantee” by showcasing their own 200Mbps “guarantee“.

UK ISP Community Fibre has managed to hit their deployment target in the London Borough of Wandsworth by making a 1000Mbps capable ultrafast fibre optic (FTTP/H) broadband network available to 10,000 council homes in time for the end of 2017. Just another 10,000 left to go.

The Assembly Member for Ceredigion in Wales, Elin Jones, has accused Openreach (BT) of walking away from rural communities in her county after the operator left a roll-out of “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) technology unfinished in the village of Oakford and possibly other locations.

UK internet provider BT has today launched a new range of “ultrafast fibre broadband” packages to support both the latest hybrid fibre G.fast and “full fibre” FTTP technologies, which offer download speeds of up to 152Mbps and 314Mbps. On top of that there’s a 100Mbps “speed guarantee.”

Telecoms operator Vodafone has told ISPreview.co.uk that they have “no firm plans to launch” ultrafast broadband products based off Openreach’s (BT) new 330Mbps capable G.fast technology. Instead they intend to focus on preparing their new 1Gbps FTTH service for launch “later this year“.

An interesting new alternative network has launched today called British Fibre Networks, which aims to build a new open access and 1Gbps capable pure fibre optic broadband service (FTTP/H) for over 35% of new build homes by 2021. The ISP is headed by the former CEO of the controversial i3 Group.

The Superfast North Yorkshire project in England has awarded its £20.5 million Phase 3 contract to Openreach (BT), which will see their FTTP and FTTC based “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) network being extended to reach an additional 14,239 homes and businesses (95% of premises).

Congratulations to the CEO of urban fibre optic ISP Hyperoptic, Dana Tobak, who has been awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for her services to the digital economy. Back in 2005 she also co-founded Be Unlimited, which was one of the first unbundled ISPs to offer ADSL2+.
