Telecoms giant BT has today reported that their joint £132m Superfast Cornwall project with the EU, which has already deployed the operators “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) network to cover around 95% of local premises (including the Isles of Scilly), has seen strong uptake by local premises with 60,000 subscribers choosing to adopt it.

Fibre optic network developer CityFibre has today announced the start of construction on their roll-out of a new 1000Mbps capable fibre optic broadband (FTTP) network in the city of Aberdeen (Aberdeen Core), which they’re already promoting as Scotland’s first “Gigabit City“.

The Leicestershire County Council in central England and national telecoms operator BT have today signed a £9.2 million extension of their existing Broadband Delivery UK contract, which will enabled more than 10,000 extra homes and businesses to access a “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) network by the end of 2018.

Fibre optic infrastructure builder CityFibre has partnered up with local business ISP Commsworld to roll-out a new 150km long “ultra-fast” pure fibre optic broadband network in the capital city of Scotland, Edinburgh. The huge project represents CityFibre’s largest “Gigabit City” investment and its second deployment in Scotland.

The UK Government’s Digital Economy Minister, Ed Vaizey, has revealed that the Superfast Cymru project has now helped an additional 345,000 homes and businesses in Wales to receive BT’s “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) network, which is roughly half-way to the current completion target of 690,000+ by the end of spring 2016 (96% coverage).
