The CEO of alternative network operator AllPoints Fibre (APFN / Fern Trading), Jarlath Finnegan, has today told ISPreview – in a new interview – of his ambition for the company to become the “UBER of the full fibre wholesale market“, which reflects their desire to help “accelerate” the delivery of related UK broadband services over the next few years.

Internet provider Cuckoo, which is the retail anchor tenant broadband ISP for the newly consolidated AllPoints Fibre network (comprising FTTP networks from Jurassic Fibre, Swish Fibre and Giganet), has today announced that the old Giganet brand is being retired and remaining customers fully migrated to Cuckoo.

Investment group Fern Trading (Octopus Investments) has today begun the next phase of customer migrations on their alternative UK full fibre broadband ISP networks, which are shifting to a central retail provider under Cuckoo. Customers of Jurassic Fibre and Swish Fibre have already been through this process, and today it’s the turn of Giganet.

Some of Giganet’s former customers have this week complained that they’ve suffered incorrect billing and cancellation problems after switching away to a different broadband ISP on Openreach’s UK network, which should normally be a smooth and largely automated migration process.

Internet provider Cuckoo has confirmed that, starting from today, new customers in CityFibre’s full fibre (FTTP) broadband areas that may be looking to sign-up online with UK ISP Giganet will instead be diverted to Cuckoo. The move forms part of Fern Trading‘s (Octopus Investments) ongoing network consolidated efforts.

News reports claim that the Octopus Energy Group will shortly sell Shell Energy’s remaining internet and phone customers, reflecting a total base of around 480,000, to budget broadband ISP TalkTalk for an as yet undisclosed sum. The deal could be formally announced within the next few days.

Broadband ISP and energy provider Shell Energy has confirmed that the Octopus Energy Group have now completed their acquisition of the UK retail provider from the Shell Group, which follows the signing of a related deal in September 2023 (here). But uncertainty remains over the future of their internet and phone customers.

Fern Trading-backed UK ISP Giganet (Cuckoo) has today announced that they’ve completed the first phase of their £250 million deployment of a new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network, which aims to reach poorly served homes and businesses across parts of Hampshire, Dorset and Wiltshire in England.

Giganet (Cuckoo), which is deploying their own UK full fibre (FTTP) broadband network and selling via existing networks (e.g. CityFibre, Openreach), has today announced that they’ve become one of the first ISPs in the country to be certified for five ISO accreditations (international standards) under a UKAS-approved auditing body.

Fern Trading-backed UK ISP Giganet (Cuckoo) appears to have been suffering from a “mass service outage” over the past 12-24 hours which, judging by feedback from customers across the UK, has resulted in a variety of sporadic connectivity problems since around 3pm yesterday afternoon.

Broadband provider Giganet (Cuckoo) has today announced that they’ve launched a new full fibre (FTTP and Ethernet) package for SOHO (small office, home office) customers in the small business sector, which they said is “ideal for offices of 1-10 employees” and will be offered via both their Openreach and CityFibre networks.

UK ISP Giganet has today announced that their gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband service, specifically the part that is served via CityFibre’s network, has been extended again and is now also available to 360,000 premises across Scotland (Inverness, Aberdeen, Dundee, Renfrewshire, Stirling, Glasgow and Edinburgh).

In a major development, investment firm Fern Trading has just announced that several of their full fibre broadband ISPs and networks (i.e. those where they hold a majority stake) – including Jurassic Fibre, Swish Fibre, Giganet (Cuckoo) and AllPoints Fibre – are to be consolidated into a single Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) operating entity.
