City-focused broadband ISP Hyperoptic, which has so far extended their full fibre (FTTP/B) network to cover “more than” 1.73 million homes and 340,000 customers in parts of 64 UK towns and cities, has this afternoon informed ISPreview that they’re launching a new router – a branded version of the Zyxel EX3301.

Consumer magazine Which? has today published the results of their latest 2024 ranking of home broadband providers, which found that smaller ISPs like CommunityFibre, Zen Internet and Hyperoptic topped the table and eclipsed the biggest providers that now mostly inhabit the bottom half of the table.

Uswitch.com has today revealed the winners of their annual 2024 Telecoms Awards event, which among things saw UK ISP Plusnet being named as the best ‘Broadband Provider of the Year’, while CommunityFibre won the best alternative network and Tesco Mobile scooped the win for best mobile ‘Network of the Year’.

Openreach (BT) are expecting to reach a record peak quarterly build rate on their new gigabit speed Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based broadband ISP network of 1 million premises passed in Q4 FY24 (i.e. end of March 2024), which is up from the 860K seen in Q2 (Sept 2023). Commercial build costs are also said to still be below £300 per premises.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the table ends up being topped by CommunityFibre, Virgin Media and Hyperoptic etc.

A new Attest survey of 1,000 UK broadband bill payers, which was commissioned by full fibre ISP Hyperoptic and conducted between 25th to 29th August 2023, has claimed that 25% of broadband customers feel furious, upset or confused after speaking to their internet provider, yet just 5% are in the process of switching.

The latest independent data from Thinkbroadband‘s database has revealed that alternative full fibre (FTTP) broadband ISP networks (AltNets) now cover over a quarter (25.14%) of the UK, which is up from 23.64% at the end of June 2023. In terms of the top 10 locations where such networks dominate, Peterborough (84%) comes first.
