The Telcom Group and sibling ClearFibre have today launched yet another sub-brand broadband ISP called WeFibre, which appears to be targeting social housing and aims to deploy their 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to cover 1 million premises by the end of 2023. Better yet this speed will cost you just £20.

Cityfibre’s FibreNation division, which was previously owned by UK ISP TalkTalk (here), has just completed an interesting new pilot Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) build that saw them deliver gigabit broadband to homes in the rural villages of Hollins Green and Rixton (Warrington). The operator usually only does towns and cities.

The Leader of Oldham Council, Sean Fielding, yesterday told watchers of the Mayor of Greater Manchester’s (Andy Burnham) weekly press conference on the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic that the UK Government’s aim of making “gigabit broadband” available to every home by 2025 “should be brought forward to 2023.” Ok.. how?

Cable and full fibre ISP Virgin Media UK has today confirmed that they’ve just completed another network expansion of their 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband and TV network to cover 2,300 extra homes and businesses in the Greater Manchester town of Bury.

The FibreNation project, which is currently being acquired by Cityfibre from UK ISP TalkTalk for £200m (here), has today confirmed that 100,000+ homes and businesses across the Greater Manchester town of Bolton will be the next to benefit from their roll-out of a new 1Gbps Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband network.

The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) has officially chosen UK ISP Virgin Media to deliver on their Local Full Fibre Network (LFFN) project, which aims to deploy “up to” 2,700km of new Gigabit speed fibre network to serve 1,700 public sector sites across the city-region (up from the 1,300 originally proposed).

Openreach (BT) has announced that more than 45,000 premises in Salford (Greater Manchester) can now access their Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband ISP network, which has been deployed as part of their work to cover 4 million premises by March 2021 and possibly 15 million by around 2025.

A new wayleave (land access) agreement means that cable operator Virgin Media will now be able to extend their 500Mbps+ broadband and TV network to cover an additional 2,700 homes in the north of Manchester, which once completed will give them a total coverage in the metropolitan region of 714,000 premises.
