The European Commission has officially unveiled its future Connectivity proposals, which among other things include a new target for “all European households” to get a minimum Internet download speed of 100Mbps+ by 2025, with businesses and the public sector being told to expect 1Gbps+.

Wait.. T-Mobile, aren’t they dead? Apparently not because EE has started informing some of their legacy pay-as-you-go using T-Mobile customers that the price of a 30 days, 30 days rolling or 6 month Internet data booster add-on will double in price from 10th October 2016.

RootMetrics have today published their latest report into the Mobile Broadband (3G and 4G) performance of network operators EE, Three UK, O2 and Vodafone across 16 of the United Kingdom’s primary cities. Overall Liverpool came top of the table, while Hull is still stuck at the bottom.

The CEO of mobile operator Three UK, David Dyson, has once again called on Ofcom to level the market by limiting BT’s (EE) ability to bid on new radio spectrum in the forthcoming auction of airwaves for the higher frequency 2.3GHz (2350 – 2390MHz) and 3.4GHz (3410 – 3600MHz) bands.

Mobile operator EE has announced that their 4G+ based Mobile Broadband network is being upgraded to support the latest Cat 9 LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) technology, which can theoretically support Internet speeds of up to 450Mbps by combining multiple spectrum bands.

Mobile operator EE (BT) has suffered a blow after the High Court rejected their challenge against Ofcom’s proposed hike to annual licence fees for the 900MHz and 1800MHz radio spectrum bands. The outcome could result in price rises and threaten the Government’s £5bn deal to extend geographic mobile coverage to 90%.

Mobile operator EE has called on Ofcom to grant a variation of its spectrum access licence in the 2100MHz band, which would allow them to use it for rolling out 4G (LTE) services via the unpaired frequencies of 1899.9 – 1909.9MHz. At present the band is only used for older 3G technology.

Mobile operator EE has launched a new range of pay monthly 4GEE Max plans, which promise subscribers the “fastest” 4G based Mobile Broadband speeds, inclusive access to the BT Sport TV App, bigger data caps (up to 40GB) and the ability to use their allowances to “roam like home” when abroad in the EU.

Three UK has announced that indoor mobile coverage on their 4G (LTE) network has increased from 80% in June 2013 to 92% now, which is largely thanks to the boost from their on-going roll-out of the lower frequency 800MHz band. Elsewhere 42 new roaming destinations have also been added.
