The Government’s Broadband Delivery UK programme, which is primarily working with BT to make fixed line superfast broadband (24Mbps+) services available to 95% of the United Kingdom by 2017/18, has officially helped to cover an additional 3.5 million homes and businesses.

A new report from Ofcom has revealed that the vast majority of fixed line home broadband ISP subscribers have, after being given an “enforced” choice, chosen not to implement their provider’s network-level filtering (Parental Controls), which are designed to block adult websites (porn etc.).

The state aid supported Superfast Cymru project with BT has today announced that their ultrafast 330Mbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network has been made available to premises in the village of Nasareth (Gwynedd). The one in Wales, of course, and NOT the childhood home of Jesus.

Last year Europe adopted new rules that are designed to make it both “easier and cheaper” to roll-out ultrafast broadband networks, which included a voluntary “High-Speed Broadband Ready” label for new build homes. Today a new consultation has been launch on UK implementation of the rules.
