NFU Begins Survey of Broadband and Mobile Quality Among UK Farmers

The National Farmers Union (NFU), which represents 55,000 members across England and Wales (around 70% of full time farmers support the NFU), has launched a major new survey of its members in order to find out how many are suffering from a poor fixed line broadband service or mobile signal.

The Government’s Broadband Delivery UK project, which is predominantly working with BT to deploy superfast “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) services to 95% of the United Kingdom by 2017/18, has confirmed that the take-up rate of their roll-out has exceeded the forecast and as a result they’ve activated their clawback mechanism to reinvest up to £129m.

All Public Libraries in England to Get FREE WiFi Access by March 2016

The Government has announced that tier 1 local authorities can now apply for a slice of £7.1 million in public funding, which is designed to help them ensure that all public libraries in England can offer free wireless (WiFi) Internet access to visitors by March 2016.

ITS Criticises Ofcom Over Claims the Final 5% Won’t Get Fibre Broadband

Ofcom – No “Fibre Broadband” for the UK’s Final 5 Percent of Premises

The CEO of the United Kingdom’s communications regulator, Sharon White, has told a Culture, Media and Sport Committee in Parliament that in her view those who live in the final 5% of premises that have yet to benefit from superfast broadband will not get “fibre” connectivity. “We are not going to get there through fibre,” said White.

High Court Rules UK Telecoms and Internet Data Retention Act Unlawful

The Government is nearly ready to join with Rights Holders and four of the country’s largest broadband ISPs to kick off a major “multi-media education campaign“, which will encourage Internet users to “do the right thing” and use legal services instead of piracy. GLA Conservatives – London is One of the Slowest EU Capitals for Broadband

The GLA Conservatives, which represent the Conservative members on the London Assembly, have today used data from Ofcom to claim that 341,592 residents in inner London are without modern “high-speed Internet access” and the city is one of the “worst capitals” in Europe for broadband speed – “behind Paris, Bucharest, Dublin and Kiev“.

UK Digital Minister Ed Vaizey Pledges Clarity on Broadband Coverage

ISPA UK Doubts EU Can Deliver Digital Single Market Policy On Time

The UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) has warned that Europe’s attempts to introduce a new Digital Single Market strategy by the end of 2016, which covers everything from tackling “illegal” Internet content to boosting investment in faster broadband or mobile networks, is in “serious danger” of missing its target.
