How much Mobile Broadband data does your 4G mobile plan include and is it too expensive? A new report from Point Topic has revealed significant variations in 4G pricing and data caps across Europe, with UK consumers appearing to exist in one of the more expensive markets.

The Office for National Statistics has published their annual E-commerce and ICT report, which offers some interesting statistics for UK business broadband connectivity to the end of 2015 (not exactly recent). Overall 83% of all businesses had Internet access (unchanged from 2014), but speeds vary.

A new OnePoll survey of 2,000 UK adults from broadband ISP Relish Wireless, which operates a superfast fixed wireless 4G network in Swindon and central London, has found that 18% of respondents don’t even know their home phone number and 60% only take a land line to get broadband.

A new TNS survey of 2,012 British “adults” aged 16-64, which was commissioned by Satellite provider ViaSat, has revealed that 72% don’t believe the Government is doing enough to meet future broadband needs, while many others are confused about the reality of current service coverage and speeds.

The latest 2016 UK Prime Country Review (Winter) from Knight Frank, an estate agent that covers London and the UK, has revealed that 47% of 500+ new house buyers active in the prime market would be “more likely” to buy a house in an area with good Internet connectivity or superfast broadband.

Consumer magazine Which? has published the outcome from their latest H2 2016 reader survey of broadband ISP satisfaction, which for the 10th time has named Zen Internet the best of the bunch. Sadly the news isn’t so good for TalkTalk, which had the lowest customer satisfaction score of 37%.

The Government’s Broadband Delivery UK scheme has posted its latest progress update to 30th September 2016, which reveals that some 4,168,739 additional premises in the United Kingdom can now access a “superfast broadband” (24Mbps+) service as a result of a £1.6bn public investment.

The company behind the popular Speedtest.net service, Ookla, has published its annual ‘Speedtest® Market Report‘ for the United Kingdom and revealed that we rank just 30th in the world for average fixed line broadband speeds (Virgin Media is the fastest ISP) and 32nd for Mobile Broadband (EE is top).

Telecoms giant Vodafone UK has today released their latest quarterly results (calendar Q3 2016), which saw their fixed line broadband customers grow once again to total 167,000 (up by +30K in Q3 vs +28K in Q2) and UK 4G outdoor coverage increase to 92% (or 96% by Ofcom’s definition).

Cable Internet and TV provider Virgin Media (Liberty Global) has published their latest quarterly results (calendar Q3 2016), which saw growth in their broadband base improve to total 4,867,900 customers (up by +59.9K vs +42.7K added in Q2). On top of that around 2 million premises will now benefit from ultrafast FTTP broadband.

Ofcom’s latest Telecoms Market Data Tables (Q2 2016) update has revealed that the United Kingdom is now home to a total of 24,858,000 fixed residential and small business broadband lines (up by 684,000 from a year previously); 10.91m (44%) of those are cable DOCSIS or fibre (FTTC/P/H) based.

The latest quarterly (Q3 2016 calendar) results have been published by BT today, which reveal that their retail broadband base now tops 9,193,000 customers (up by +76K, unchanged from Q2) and 4,473,000 of those take their ‘Infinity‘ (FTTC/P) superfast broadband (up by +216K vs +181K in Q2).

The latest online survey of 1,516 ISPreview.co.uk readers suggests that mobile is still the most popular choice (72.1% of respondents), with security fears and fiddly sign-up forms hurting trust in WiFi.

The Government’s Broadband Delivery UK project has released its latest Q2 2016 take-up data for the state aid supported roll-out of superfast broadband (24Mbps+) services across the United Kingdom, which shows that many local authorities are seeing 30% adoption of the new service and that will help reinvestment.

Akamai has published its Q2-2016 State of the Internet report, which reveals that the United Kingdom’s average fixed line broadband download speed is now 15Mbps (up from 14.9Mbps in Q1) vs a global score of 6.1Mbps (down from 6.3Mbps). Sadly the UK’s world rank has once again fallen from 19th to 20th.

Good news, Ofcom’s latest Q2 2016 consumer complaints report finds that the total volume of UK Telecoms (mobile, broadband and phone) and Pay TV complaints has declined. Sadly some ISPs have fared better than others, with BT coming out top of the worst for fixed line home broadband.

A new report from global business and tax advisory firm EY has warned that 32% of UK consumers see little difference between the bundles offered by broadband ISPs, which risks encouraging a “race to the bottom” where the only perceived differentiator is price.
