A new report from Ofcom has revealed that the vast majority of fixed line home broadband ISP subscribers have, after being given an “enforced” choice, chosen not to implement their provider’s network-level filtering (Parental Controls), which are designed to block adult websites (porn etc.).

Akamai has released their latest State of the Internet Q3 2015 (SotI) report, which states that the world’s average fixed line broadband download speed is 5.1Mbps (unchanged from Q2), which compares with 13Mbps in the United Kingdom (up from 11.8Mbps). Elsewhere the UK’s overall country ranking has rebounded from 19th to 14th.

The telecoms regulator has today published their latest Q3 2015 complaints report, which reveals the volume of gripes received for all of the United Kingdom’s largest broadband, phone, mobile and TV providers. As usual EE takes a beating, while Sky Broadband and Virgin Media win praise.

Last month the Government confirmed that their Broadband Delivery UK project with BT had so far managed to extend superfast (24Mbps+) capable “fibre broadband” services to 3,311,843 extra premises and today we’ve also got the latest consumer take-up figures for each local authority.

The telecoms regulator has today published their annual International Communications Market Report 2015 (ICMR), which among other things compares the performance of broadband and telecoms networks in the United Kingdom with 18 other key countries around the world.

The United Kingdom has been described as one of the “most dynamic” and fastest rising country’s in the world after it placed 4th in the ITU’s latest annual 2015 ICT Development Index, which ranks 167 countries by their skills, use and adoption of Internet connectivity and computer technologies.

Ofcom has published their latest Telecoms Market Data update, which reports that the United Kingdom is now home to a total of 24.17 million fixed line residential and small business broadband ISP connections (excludes corporate lines) in Q2 2015 (up by +167K since Q1, but down from the +277K added in Q4 2014).

The UK telecoms regulator has today published its Connected Nations 2015 report and confirmed that 83% of premises are now within reach of a fixed line superfast broadband (30Mbps+) service (up from 75% in 2014), with take-up reaching 27% (up from 22%). But they also changed the definition of “ultrafast” speeds from 100Mbps+ to 300Mbps+.

A new study from the RAC Foundation has revealed that almost 4,600 miles of British roads, about 2% the length of Britain’s entire road network, are not covered by any mobile phone network and this includes some big stretches of key roads (e.g. the A93 in Scotland and A149 in East Anglia).

It’s not just slow broadband that can discourage people from buying a new home. A RootMetrics survey of 2,135 UK adults, which was conducted by YouGov during October 2015, suggests that having a good mobile signal (34%) is now more important than the quality of local schools (23%).

A new report predicts that the Superfast North Yorkshire project, which is working with BT to make FTTC/P based superfast broadband (25Mbps+) services available to around 90% of local premises by late 2016 and possibly 95% within a few years (details), could boost the local economy by £220m.

Cable operator Virgin Media has confirmed that customers of their recently launched Vivid 200Mbps broadband package (here) are seeing their average Internet download speeds at peak times drop to 130Mbps (October 2015 Data), which is below the previous top package tier of 152Mbps.
