As predicted last week TalkTalk has this morning confirmed the acquisition of Tesco’s Blinkbox Movies (video streaming) business, but in a more surprising move they’ve also gobbled the supermarket giants budget fixed line broadband (75,000 subs) and phone (20,000 subs) customers. Apparently the assets have been acquired free of debt and as a single transaction for cash.

As expected all of the United Kingdom’s largest broadband ISPs are now starting to interrupt the website browsing sessions of their existing customers in order to offer them an enforce option about whether or not to enable their network-level filtering (Parental Control) services, which block websites that are deemed to contain “adult content” and is a Government requirement.

As previously reported new customers who take TalkTalk’s triple-play Plus TV bundle of unlimited broadband, phone and YouView television services will, effective from today, also receive a Free Mobile SIM that includes 100 minutes, 250 texts and 200MB of data per month.

The United Kingdom’s communications regulator, Ofcom, has today published their annual study of consumer satisfaction with fixed line broadband, phone, pay TV and mobile providers, which is based on feedback received from around 6,000 consumers who were interviewed as part of the research. Budget Internet provider TalkTalk has praised the success of their “ground-breaking” Project Genesis system (not to be confused with the world-colonising ‘Genesis Device’ from StarTrek 2), which helps to tackle broadband and phone connection faults by carrying out thousands of line checks every day and automatically raising fault tickets if it finds a problem.
