Customers who take TalkTalk’s budget priced Essentials bundle, which currently combines half price “unlimited” broadband with free evening and weekend calls to UK landlines (£3.25 a month), can for a limited time also benefit from free installation on any new or reactivated phone line (saving of £50).

BT has warned Dido Harding, the boss of its arch rival TalkTalk, that her ISP is in danger of being “remembered as broadband luddites clinging to a copper raft in a sea of fibre” after Harding criticised the lack of competition and regulation in the United Kingdom’s emerging market for fibre optic based superfast broadband (FTTC/P) services.

The Advertising Standards Authority UK (ASA) has, following a complaint by BT, banned a press and website ad for TalkTalk’s new broadband YouView TV service, which was found to have wrongfully promoted the “FREE” kit as “usually/normally £299” (i.e. retail price of the box).

Netflix UK, the unlimited movies and TV subscription based video streaming service, has published its latest December 2012 rankings for broadband Internet Service Providers in the United Kingdom. The ratings reflect the average performance of all Netflix video streams on each ISP.

The UK telecoms regulator has unveiled a five-point action plan to tackle the “growing problem” of nuisance calls (e.g. silent and abandoned calls from automated dialling systems) that can cause “considerable concern and annoyance for consumers“, although its long running investigation into ISP TalkTalk’s related activity has yet to reach a conclusion.

Internet and phone provider TalkTalk reports that its broadband network in the United Kingdom was “busier than ever” over the Christmas and the New Year period. Customer downloads of new Tablet updates and pre-work emails pushed data traffic to a peak of 557GBps (GigaBytes per second?) on New Year’s Day.

Budget ISP TalkTalk has today announced that their Essentials bundle, which combines “unlimited” broadband with free evening and weekend calls to UK landlines and a £25 Love2shop voucher, will be free for the first 3 months of service (saves £19.50) to new customers. A free connection is also included.

Budget internet, tv and phone provider TalkTalk has today released its latest Q3-2012 financial results, which reveal that their broadband subscriber base declined by -4,000 in the quarter to total 4,043,000 (that’s a big improvement from the -19k lost in Q2). Thankfully superfast broadband (FTTC) customers doubled to 30,000.

The CEO of budget ISP TalkTalk, Dido Harding, has warned a Westminster panel session that the UK government should “start to worry” about the lack of competition in the new market for fibre optic based superfast broadband services; where a true alternative to BT and cheaper fibre-based local loop unbundling (LLU) remains absent.

Budget internet and phone provider TalkTalk has today quietly revealed a spate of new price hikes for its UK phone, broadband and TV services. The changes, which are largely in response to a similar move by BT and other ISPs, are all due to take effect from 1st January 2013.

TalkTalk Business has today announced the forthcoming November 2012 launch of their new managed “SuperFast Broadband” service, which will make use of the latest Fibre-to-the-Cabinet (FTTC) technology to offer download speeds of up to 80Mbps (Megabits per second) and uploads of up to 20Mbps to firms around the UK.

Broadband ISP TalkTalk reports that internet traffic over its UK network spiked at 460Gbps (Gigabits per second) on Sunday evening (“significantly more” than normal) as customers went online to watch Austrian pilot Felix Baumgartner jump to Earth from a balloon (Red Bull Stratos) at the edge of space.

Budget internet provider TalkTalk looks to be starting the UK roll out of their new Plus TV service this week, which combines a “free” YouView (IPTV) box with the “Plus” broadband and phone bundle. Celebrity TV star Joanna Lumley kicked off proceedings in London today but some concerns remain.

The communications regulator, Ofcom, has today revealed its latest customer complaints data for the UK’s largest fixed line broadband and mobile providers (those with a market share of +4%), which covers the second quarter (Q2-2012). Happily ISP complaints saw a sharp fall but TalkTalk remains the provider with most complaints.

Computing magazine PC Pro has announced the winners of its annual PCPro Excellence Awards 2012, which saw Zen Internet win the Best ISP gong for a ninth time (overall satisfaction score of 93%). Meanwhile BE Broadband (83%) and PlusNet (83%) walked away as runners up. Sadly other ISPs didn’t do quite so well.
