Broadband ISP TalkTalk has today published the results of its latest YouGov research, which asked 2,010 online UK adults which system would be best for helping to protect children from accessing adult content on the internet. Overall 78% rejected the idea of default filtering, which would be automatically enabled on all internet accounts.

The recent launch of TalkTalk’s new YouView TV (IPTV) service (full details), which is being included alongside the ISPs unlimited broadband and anytime UK calls “Plus” package bundle, will apparently also result in the creation of 500 new jobs; most of whom will be engineers. But big challenges remain.

Budget internet provider TalkTalk UK has increased the cost of its early termination charges by up to +£2 extra a month, which is the fee you pay when choosing to leave your broadband and or phone service contract before its minimum term period (12 or 18 months) has expired.

The results from 1068 respondents to ISPreview.co.uk’s latest monthly web-based survey has revealed that 63.6% would never return to a broadband ISP that had previously caused them problems and 78.3% are now unwilling to sacrifice quality for a cheaper price. Can ISPs ever overcome a bad reputation?

Ofcom’s latest broadband speeds report (released this week) also includes a unique and useful insight into the Latency (Ping) and Packet Loss performance of the UK’s largest ISPs, which can have a serious impact upon the performance of specific internet applications (e.g. online video games, Skype etc.). But which provider is best?

Budget ISP TalkTalk has today expanded upon its existing MVNO partnership with Vodafone UK by launching a more extensive range of mobile services, which means that the provider can now offer broadband, phone, mobile and even a TV service via YouView. Mobile contracts start from just £5 a month.

The CEO of UK budget broadband and phone provider TalkTalk, Dido Harding, has admitted that two years ago the ISP was letting its customers down while going through a post-Tiscali acquisition period of being “unconsciously incompetent“. But all is well, now that they’ve become “much more consciously incompetent” instead.

BT’s risky £738 million grab of 38 Premier League football games (here) for its BTVision TV (IPTV) service has allegedly sparked rumours in the city that BSkyB (Sky Broadband) could be about to make a bid for arch rival TalkTalk, which may or may not be a good thing.

The YouView (Project Canvas) IPTV product, a subscription free, broadband internet based, video-on-demand and catch-up TV service that will be bundled by several big ISPs, has today confirmed that it will be available through major retailers by the end of July 2012. TalkTalk has also pledged to reveal its related bundle at a Strategy Day for investors on 26 July.

The UK communications regulator, Ofcom, has today published its latest quarterly customer complaints data (Q1-2012) for big fixed line broadband and mobile providers (i.e. those with a market share of 4%+). Sadly TalkTalk remains the ISP with most complaints but crucially they have continued to improve.
