The YouView (Project Canvas) IPTV product, a subscription free, broadband internet based, video-on-demand and catch-up TV service that will be bundled by several big ISPs, has today confirmed that it will be available through major retailers by the end of July 2012. TalkTalk has also pledged to reveal its related bundle at a Strategy Day for investors on 26 July.

Budget internet and phone provider TalkTalk UK has today begun including a free £25 Sainsbury’s voucher alongside their existing half price broadband and free connection (saves £30) promotions, although the voucher will only be available until Thursday 5th July 2012 next week.

The UK communications regulator, Ofcom, has today published its latest quarterly customer complaints data (Q1-2012) for big fixed line broadband and mobile providers (i.e. those with a market share of 4%+). Sadly TalkTalk remains the ISP with most complaints but crucially they have continued to improve.

Internet and phone provider TalkTalk has today suggested that over 500,000 UK homes could be bleeding 4Mbps (Megabits per second) of broadband speed because of “poor in-home setups“, which is allegedly “equivalent to 2.3 Million Mb of speed being lost every second” and they know how to fix it.

Budget internet provider TalkTalk has this week joined Sky Broadband, Orange UK (Everything Everywhere), O2 UK (BE Broadband) and Virgin Media in preventing their customers from being able to view The Pirate Bay website over internet copyright infringement (piracy) abuse. BT is expected to follow.

Budget internet and phone provider TalkTalk has reintroduced “unlimited” downloads to their basic entry-level ‘Essentials‘ package, which had previously been capped at 40GB (GigaBytes). On top of that the ISP are also throwing in 12 months half price broadband with calls, free connection and 500 landline to mobile minutes free for 3 months (£5 a month thereafter).

Budget internet provider TalkTalk appears to have scaled back their current promotions and are now offering a 6 months half price broadband with calls bundle (£3.25 a month) on the ‘Essentials‘ (40GB usage) and ‘Plus‘ (unlimited usage) packages, which also comes with a FREE Connection and £25 Tescos Gift Card voucher.

Somebody has unwittingly exposed sensitive contract details for a TalkTalk Business UK ISP subsidiary (Greystone Telecom) to the internet by failing to prevent anonymous access via their Microsoft IIS web server. TalkTalk claims to be busy tracking the source down.

The Post Office has chosen to scrap its limited BTWholesale and Logica based managed broadband and phone platform, which is still stuck on old ‘up to’ 8Mbps ADSL technology, in favour of a huge new and potentially more competitive unbundled (LLU) solution delivered by Fujitsu and rival ISP TalkTalk.

Internet security experts at Trend Micro have warned UK ISPs to pay more attention to their abuse departments after it was forced to block Pipex’s (TalkTalk) spam spewing email servers for almost a week because the provider “choose not to man their abuse desk” and did not respond to the warnings.

Budget ISP TalkTalk has created its own Digital Retail Price Index (DRPI), which shows the rate of inflation when you buy goods (food and clothing etc.) online instead of on the high street. It claims that inflation on the internet is just 0.3%, which compares with 3.5% for the UK’s Retail Price Index (RPI) and 3% for the Consumer Price Index (CPI) .

The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has rejected an attempt by TalkTalk to have a rival TV advert for the BTInfinity (FTTC) superfast broadband service pulled. The ISP accused BT’s promotion of “misleadingly” implying that fibre optic broadband services were only available from BT.

The Go ON UK (RaceOnline 2012) initiative, which is headed up by the country’s Digital Champion, Martha Lane Fox, has joined forces with ISP TalkTalk and software giant Microsoft to offer a special refurbished computer (Windows 7 PC or Laptop) and broadband with phone bundle to low income adults and families from just £49.

Internet and phone provider TalkTalk (AOL UK) has today released its latest results to 31st March 2012 (Q4), which saw their broadband subscriber base decline by -13,000 in the quarter to reach a new total of 4,066,000. That’s a significant improvement on the -43,000 lost during the previous Q4-2011. The ISP also revealed growth in its new superfast broadband service.

The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has upheld a complaint by one of TalkTalk’s UK customers against a broadband speed checking facility on the ISPs website, which was found to deliver a “misleading” estimates of expected performance because it didn’t go far enough to make clear that the speed consumers received was “likely to be lower than the estimated” range.

Internet provider TalkTalk, which established itself in the UK market by offering extremely cheap home broadband services over their unbundled ADSL2+ (LLU) network, has called on Ofcom to develop a new regulatory framework that would effectively force BT to cut the wholesale / rental cost of superfast broadband services to ISPs from 2015.
