Broadband and telecoms giant BT (EE) have teamed-up with social media giant Meta to develop and deploy a new technology that aims to make watching online videos via Facebook and Instagram more reliable for EE mobile customers, even during periods of high network demand.

Digital entertainment platform Netgem TV has today announced that they’ve added a bunch of new cloud games and FAST TV channels to their UltraHD (4K) IPTV box – PLEIO, which already includes support for the UK’s newest broadband-based live TV streaming service (Freely).

The UK Government is expected to publish a new Green Paper in the next few weeks, which will set out their proposed plan for switching off terrestrial TV signals as part of a move toward internet-based streaming platforms. But the chosen date will be contingent upon universal coverage of affordable “superfast broadband” and other supporting requirements.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 is getting closer and as part of that Openreach and BT have announced a “UK wide network service protection period” for their national broadband services, which will be in place from 11th June to 19th July 2026. The measures are designed to help mitigate an expected increase in network demand and to avoid changes that may disrupt match viewing.

Internet access provider Zzoomm, which is now part of the recently merged FTTP broadband network from FullFibre Limited (here), has today become the latest alternative network ISP to launch a live TV, streaming, and cloud gaming service via Netgem TV‘s new IPTV set-top-box and streaming platform – PLEIO.

The UK telecoms and media regulator, Ofcom, has today published a new Draft Code of Practice for internet and broadband based video streaming services (e.g. Netflix, Amazon / Prime, Disney+ etc.), which will require them to follow new rules, including around harm and offence, due impartiality and accuracy, fairness and privacy, and accessibility.

Network operators Virgin Media and O2 (VMO2) have today published their latest Q1 2026 results and revealed that their gigabit broadband network increased its UK coverage by just 6,400 premises in the quarter (down from 115.1k in Q4), while related consumer customers fell to a total of 5,446,100 (down by -5.6k in Q1 2026). VMO2’s total mobile base also fell to 46.44m.

Digital entertainment platform Netgem TV has today announced that their latest UltraHD (4K) IPTV box – PLEIO, which includes support for the UK’s newest broadband-based live TV streaming service (Freely), will now return to adopting a “permanent” price of £99 and has also added new video games, as well as some extra TV channels.

Streaming platform provider Roku UK, which last year began to deploy their “first-ever” FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV) channels to streaming boxes at no extra cost (here), has today announced that they’ve added another five FAST TV channels to their existing total of 40. The new additions all come from ITV Studios.
