The government’s Broadband Delivery UK office has released new guidance for local authorities on the use of state aid (public funding) in support of deploying NGA fixed wireless access (FWA) networks. Online Video to Push Mobile Broadband Traffic to 134 Exabytes by 2017

Cisco’s latest forecast has predicted that online video services will represent 66% of global Mobile Broadband traffic by 2017 (up from 51% in 2012), which will help to push total mobile data use from 0.9 Exabytes per month (i.e. 885 Petabytes) now to 11.2 EB in just five years’ time and outpace global fixed data traffic.

IEEE Approve New 802.11ad Ultrafast 7Gbps WiFi 60GHz Wireless Standard

The IEEE Standards Association (IEEE) has officially approved the new 802.11ad (802.11ad-2012 amendment) standard that will provide short-range wifi wireless networking (WLAN) speeds of up to 7Gbps (Gigabits per second) by using the unlicensed 60GHz radio spectrum band (typically 57-66GHz).
