The incumbent telecoms operator for Hull in East Yorkshire (England), KC, has announced the launch of several new Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) based “Lightstream” fibre optic broadband packages for businesses, with download speed options of 250Mbps, 500Mbps, 750Mbps and 1000Mbps.

Fixed wireless ISP Pure Broadband has today announced that they will be the first ISP to use CityFibre’s dark fibre optic backbone connectivity network to power their wireless mast sites throughout the city of Hull in East Yorkshire (England), which marks a significant upgrade to Pure’s existing network that has been in use since 2008.

Remember last month when KC announced that their Lightstream fibre optic broadband (FTTP/C) network would cover 60,000 premises by spring 2016? Forget about it! The incumbent telecoms operator for East Yorkshire and Hull has now decided to push out even further to reach more than 105,000 by March 2017.

After a small delay some 16 premises in the tiny North Yorkshire village of Ulshaw have become the first in Northern England to get access to superfast broadband (24Mbps+) speeds thanks to BT’s trial of a new broadband technology called Fibre-to-the-Remote-Node (FTTrN). Now if they could just get the power supply issues fixed.

After today’s Scotland expansion (here) we now have West Yorkshire (England) confirming that the Government’s Connection Voucher scheme, which offers grants worth up to £3,000 to help SME businesses in various cities across the UK to get a superfast broadband (30Mbps+) service, has been expanded to firms in Wakefield, Kirklees and Calderdale.
