Budget ISP TalkTalk is understandably keen to move away from last month’s price hike news (here) and have today announced a new offer that cuts the price of their triple-play broadband, phone and TV (YouView) bundles in half for the first 12 months of service (note: 18 month contract applies). Subscribers will also get a £75 Love2shop Voucher.

Customers of the BT TV (IPTV) service, specifically those with legacy BTVision+ set-top-boxes, will from 20th October 2014 no longer be able to access the operators BTSport channels via the encrypted digital terrestrial transmission using a supplied viewing card. But there is a small caveat.

Mobile operator and ISP EE (Everything Everywhere) will today go head-to-head with BT, TalkTalk, Sky Broadband (BSkyB) and Virgin Media when they become the latest telecoms giant to introduce their own TV (IPTV) product, with the related Set-Top-Box (STB) being offered for free to their 775,000 existing Home Broadband customers.

Customers of BT’s YouView (IPTV) based broadband TV service can no longer access the ISPs premium content (e.g. the Discovery Channel, FOX, SyFy, MTV etc.) by using unauthorised set-top-boxes, such as those purchased from third party retailers.

PlusNet has informed ISPreview.co.uk that their 8 month old customer trial of a YouView (IPTV) based broadband TV service is “going very well“, but sadly even after all this time they’re still unable to give any indication of when a commercial launch might occur.

BT has confirmed that new and existing TV (IPTV) customers will be able to watch the new Sky Sports 5 channel, which is dedicated to European Football, on their BT Vision+ set-top-box when it’s launched by Sky today (channel 524). But standard broadband (non – BTInfinity) subscribers will have to wait a few weeks longer.

Budget ISP TalkTalk has revealed the latest results for Q2-2014 (calendar), which saw their broadband subscriber base grow by +10,000 in the quarter to total 4,206,000 (i.e. stable growth from +10k added in Q1). Meanwhile their planned roll-out of ultrafast FTTP broadband in the city of York is also making progress.

The broadband based YouView (IPTV) catch-up and video-on-demand TV service, which is also bundled via several broadband ISPs (BT, TalkTalk etc.), has today launched a cheaper and faster set-top-box for retailers called the Humax DTR-T2000 (NOT to be confused with the HDR-2000T). But sadly there’s still no mention of WiFi support.

Customers of BT’s TV bundles should benefit after the broadband and phone provider announced that their BTTV Player on YouView and older BTVision (IPTV) set-top-boxes would be getting an update to improve its performance and “redesign” the User Interface (UI) layout.

The High Court in London has today ruled that YouView, which offers a subscription-free broadband based TV (IPTV) service via retail and through ISPs like BT and TalkTalk, infringes upon a trade mark (YourView) owned by online billing firm Total Ltd.

Customers adopting one of BT’s triple-play broadband, TV and phone bundles have now been given the option of adding a second YouView (IPTV) set-top-box, for use in different rooms, to their service. But unlike the primary box, which is usually included at no extra cost, the second one won’t be free and you’ll need BTInfinity (FTTC).

Budget Internet and phone provider TalkTalk has today released its latest results for Q1-2014 (calendar), which saw them add +10k new broadband customers in the quarter to total 4,196,000 (better than the +5k in Q4-2013). But of most interest are their plans for ultrafast FTTP broadband and a converged fixed-mobile offer using 4G spectrum and femtocells.

BT’s consumer ISP division has confirmed that their new and re-contracting broadband subscribers will continue to benefit from free access to BTSport TV content for a second season and the operator also revealed that around 5 million UK homes now view the service (3 million come direct from BT and the rest via wholesale partners).

The Advertising Standards Authority has banned a television advert for TalkTalk’s broadband TV (YouView) service after it failed to make clear that “some catch-up [TV] content is excluded from the on demand services“.

Customers of the BT TV service have been told that the operator intends to “close” their original silver BTVision broadband IPTV box service. Owners of the related set top box devices will instead be offered an upgrade to the new YouView based STB kit “at no extra cost“, but you’ll have to re-contract both your TV and broadband for another 18 months first.

The battle for broadband and TV dominance between BSkyB and BT took another twist today after it was revealed that the latter had nabbed the former Director of Sky Broadband and voice services, Delia Bushell, to take the new role of Managing Director at its TV and BTSport division.
