New customers who take one of BT Business‘s broadband packages should now receive the provider’s modern Smart Hub router with their order instead of the old HomeHub 5 (Hub 5) kit, which follows roughly a year after the device was first launched for residential subscribers.
The Smart Hub router, which supports integrated ADSL2+, VDSL2 (FTTC) and offers a big jump in WiFi performance, appears to be more or less identical to the kit that residential subscribers receive (full details), although the business division also boasts of “built-in web traffic prioritisation” to enhance the quality of VoIP calls and a “built-in business-grade security firewall” (it’s unclear how this is different from the domestic kit).
The router itself is generally provided for free, although there is a one-off delivery charge of £8.50 +vat. It’s a pity that new business subscribers have had to wait so long for the router to be introduced, but better late than never.
