UK ISP TalkTalk Cull 6 TV Channels from their Entertainment Package

Subscribers who take one of TalkTalk’s broadband, TV (YouView), phone and or mobile bundles may be displeased to learn that the ISP’s Entertainment Package of premium television will lose six of its channels from 30th June 2016, including some big names like the ‘Discovery Channel’.

A post on the ISP’s community forum reveals that customers have recently begun to receive a new email that informs them of the unexpected change, although TalkTalk have attempted to balance the loss by adding a new TalkTalk Film Club into the mix, which offers a collection of 20 on-demand movies and 5 more titles will be added each week.

Extract from TalkTalk’s Email

“We want our customers to enjoy the best entertainment, which is why from midnight on 30th June we’re adding ‘TalkTalk Film Club’, a collection of 20 on-demand movies … To ensure we provide the best entertainment we regularly review all our channels, and sometimes need to remove some as well as add new ones.

As a result we’re removing 6 channels: Discovery Channel, Discovery Home & Health, Animal Planet, TLC, Sony TV Asia and Star Plus, which will no longer be available from midnight on 30th June. National Geographic, History and Eden will still be there with their world-class programmes.”

The move comes at a time when TalkTalk are trying hard to stop a nasty customer bleed, which accelerated after last year’s major cyber-attack. So far the provider has been moving in the right direction, although this latest rocking of the boat probably won’t help matters.
