Greentomatocars has allegedly become the first minicab firm in Europe to deploy a free wireless internet (wifi) service across its entire fleet of 300 energy efficient hybrid taxis in London (England). Separately the Alton Towers Resort, which is one of the UK’s biggest theme parks, has deployed a similar service.
The in-car solution is understood to be supplied by a more familiar Mobile Broadband (3G) connection, which is then distributed over wifi using specialist kit provided by Wireless Logic. Commuters using the service simply need to select the Greentomatocars access point from their list of local wifi networks and use the following password: ilovefreewifi .
Jonny Goldstone, Founder of Greentomatocars, added:
“Our timing couldn’t be better. Summer 2012 is well and truly upon us so for all of those people who happen to find themselves travelling around London when the action is on, they’ll never miss a moment of sport or a medal ceremony in the back of one of our cars.”
Separately the famous 500-acre large Alton Towers Resort in Staffordshire has signed a new deal with The Cloud (BSkyB) that will allow it to launch a similarly FREE WiFi service, although we wouldn’t recommend using it while on one of their rollercoaster rides.
