EE UK Refreshes 4G Mobile Pay As You Go Subscription Packs

Monday, Mar 13th, 2023 (4:55 pm) - Score 7,728
ee mobile sim cards

Mobile network operator EE UK has today officially informed us that they’ve launched a refreshed range of Pay As You Go (PAYG) packages, which they claim will offer customers better value and improved data allowances (up to 125GB), with a variety of new customer benefits.

We indirectly covered the unofficial launch of the new packs last week (here), when we made reference to the fact that EE had capped the mobile broadband data speeds of their PAYG plans to 25Mbps (only applies to customers who purchased a pack on or after the 10th March). But at the time, we didn’t realise they’d also re-done all the plans. Speaking of which, the “superfast” language has now been changed to “max speed“.

The new packs include features such Data Rollover, a WiFi Coverage Boost (i.e. free access to over 150,000 BT / EE WiFi hotspots across the UK), 4G support (but still no 5G) and WiFi Calling, among other things. Check below the following table for a full summary of the features.

1pMobile still wins if you ask me.

I was going to say, these numbers compare poorly against 1pMobile. Not sure why somebody would prefer to go to EE directly given they’d get less data and slower speeds. I guess there might be some fringe benefits (e.g. WiFi on the underground?).

    2. Avatar photo chris.london says:

It wouldn’t be that bad without the speed limit. Strange though that EU roaming is included when more expensive pay monthly plans don’t have it.

      @Ben

Not everyone may be aware of them and/or buy retail.

I only really heard of them the last few days on this site, unless EE gives me a decent deal for a 12 month contract I plan on switching to 1pmobile (currently EE PAYG).

    4. Avatar photo mike says:

It doesn’t. It would cost you £250 to use 25GB with 1p

    5. Avatar photo Me says:

@haha that’s what people don’t realise, is that 1P mobile now offer effectively pay monthly sim only deals with rolling monthly contracts, and you get your free calls text and data sizes just like anyone else.

    6. Avatar photo haha says:

@Me. Indeed. I have tried Voxi and that was fine – I now have a 1P mobile sim with the £20 deal coming tomorrow. I am with Sky Mobile right now and it’s great but I am starting to find my usage to decline and I am always on WIFI calling anyway and mainly use Whatsapp so I think in the future I will port to 1p and just get their yearly deal. Right now I need it for a Holiday next week as a hotspot as I know EE is good in that part of the country and there is no other option as O2 is not very good there.

I got my number from 1P originally. I think it was something like £20 but worth it – That was a while ago.

I followed that link to https://shop.ee.co.uk/partner-deals/sim-only and the cheapest deal is £23pm for 125GB. Maybe they’ve not updated their website yet?

    1. Avatar photo Doubtful says:

Found it. https://shop.ee.co.uk/sim-only/pay-as-you-go-phones Now if only I could find the red face icon…

  3. Avatar photo D says:

    Wow, EE classic

  4. Avatar photo Phil says:

Poor deal from EE. 1p mobile win hand down!

    1. Avatar photo Oliver says:

I recently found out about 1p mobile from this site and so far so good. The main benefit I’ve noticed so far is that it includes access to 5g which is something ee currently reserved for pay monthly users only. There’s also no specific speed restrictions from what I’ve noticed which is quite impressive since EE themselves limited speeds for many of its own customers who pay far more…

    2. Avatar photo haha says:

I don’t think I have ever use a sim which had a limited allowance that was slow and that’s the way it should be I agree

  5. Avatar photo Simon says:

Think I will stick with my £8 for 12GB on Plusnet (which uses EE) 30 day contract.

    1. Avatar photo Phil says:

      Plusnet are 4G no 5G

    2. Avatar photo Smythe says:

Plusnet lack VoLTE and WiFi calling.

    3. Avatar photo haha says:

Yes, until it changes over to EE in the next 3 months – PN Mobile is to stop being sold 1st of April to new customers and then it’s being migrated. According to the last briefing anyway

  6. Avatar photo Oliver says:

EE has no incentive to charge decent rates and give us full access to 5g and maximum speed because they have enough customers willing to pay through the roof on contracts and remain loyal. Granted they do have really good signal in most of the UK but the costs just aren’t worth it for me anyway. I’m currently using voxi as my main sim (£10/month unlimited 5G) and I was using EE pay as you go as my backup SIM but recently switched to 1p mobile for access to EE 5g network since this is not currently included with EE pay as you go.

  7. Avatar photo Jazzy says:

    500 minutes

Surely they can make it unlimited

Nearly all the MVNO’s offer it as standard

    1. Avatar photo Mml says:

8 GB (up from 5 GB). And we saw an article here a week ago about SMARTY offering 60 GB, up from 30 GB, for the same £10.

  8. Avatar photo Ad47uk says:

Does PAYG still have the must be used in 30 days thing?
I noticed it can be rolled over to the next time you buy a package, but if you don’t buy another package for say a couple of months, will you still be able to use the data, minutes and text that have been paid for after 30 days?

In the days before we had data, I was on PAYG with Vodafone and I hated the fact that after 30 days I had to pay again even if i had minutes and text left.

    1. Avatar photo haha says:

I remember the last time I got a “your price is going up” text from Three about 5 years ago – I was like ” that’s it – 30 day contract style PAYG only for me from now on” and I have stuck to it – got a few new handsets in that time. I have had enough of the price rises

    2. Avatar photo Ad47uk says:

@haha, Many years agao I had a 3 skype, in fact I have just seen it in a drawer, it made by a company called amoi and the model number is wps1, I think we are looking at around 12 years ago, I got it for the Skype part. Now that was the only time I have been on the Three network until I went onto smarty in 2020 and I don’t think I was on it for long, that was on a PAYG system. Three was awful then.

The last three phones I have had have been sim free and I have gone onto a sim only package, first with Plusnet and now with Smarty. The one disadvantage is that it is a monthly payment, but a low monthly payment. I changed my package last month, I now pay a fiver a month for 4GB of data, unlimited calls and unlimited text, so I pay less now than I did with the old package and have more data
The only bad thing is I am stuck with it for 12 months.
I am happy with the service, my only problem is if Vodafone and three merge, I hate Vodafone, so if it happens they will lose me as a customer when my 12 months is up

  9. Avatar photo Phil says:

RWG got the same deal as 1p mobile but at the moment RWG only support EE 4G only (coming soon will be 5G)

    https://www.rwgmobile.wales/webshop/pay-monthly/unlimited-mins-sms-200gb-data-%C2%A320-month/

  10. Avatar photo Mml says:

Shocked to see EE put a limit on minutes on their cheapest tariff in 2023.All the competition is offering unlimited minutes and texts on all tariffs as standard, with data allowance being the only variable increasing with the tariff’s price.

  11. Avatar photo haha says:

125 down 35 up from 1P via EE

Not bad – I guess the virtually unlimited it by them saying I have already used all my allowance. will see what happens when I hit 200GB

  12. Avatar photo haha says:

First screenshot is 1P via EE
Second is Three contract same position same handset (I have 2 of the same as I like it so much) so the PAYG offering is not far off a contract
