Virgin Media Blame EE for Slow UK Mobile Internet Speed and SIM Fail

Customer of Virgin Media’s mobile division (Virgin Mobile) have, over the past couple of weeks, apparently been sent defective SIM cards that resulted in slow Internet (Mobile Broadband) speeds and or a complete loss of related connectivity. Existing customers are also experiencing problems with data performance.

A report on The Register states that the problem, which appears to affect new customers, was first raised earlier this month via the operators community forum (here) and other topics concerning the same issue have also been started. In addition, some of Virgin Mobile’s existing 3G customers are also suffering from Internet performance woes (here) and that problem has been going on since around mid-August 2014.

A Virgin Mobile Spokesperson said:

“Unfortunately there is a problem at one of EE’s data centres. We are working with our network partner to ensure this is resolved as quickly as possible.”

The Virgin Mobile service is supplied by EE as part of a Virtual Mobile Network Operator (VMNO) arrangement, although customers report that the speed issues do not appear to affect EE’s own service. Meanwhile EE are apparently still working on a statement.
