Following a request from the UK governments Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), Ofcom, the communications regulator, has today published some of its “early” 2011 Infrastructure Report broadband data at a “more detailed geographical level“.
Sadly the data, which is now presented by Local Authority District, only covers England because there is “no equivalent administrative level for the other UK nations“. Otherwise it reveals the same as their original report; that the average “modem sync” (not real world performance) broadband speed in England is 7.3Mbps (Megabits per second) and 14.75% of the country receive a speed of less than 2Mbps. This is now somewhat out of date.
Update Statement
At the request of DCMS, Ofcom has published some of the 2011 data at a more detailed geographic level. This data is presented by Local Authority District and covers England only; there is no equivalent administrative level for the other UK nations. We have excluded superfast broadband from this data set, as there have been significant changes since this data was gathered in early 2011.
Effectively this information is still old, albeit now more detailed than before. Ofcom intends to update all of its broadband speeds data and maps later this year.
