Budget ISP TalkTalk UK has announced the launch of its latest annual 2012 Digital Heroes Award, which offers grants worth up to £5,000 to those who do outstanding work by using digital technology to improve the lives of people in their communities.
Last year’s overall winner, Chris Dredger of Storybook Dads, used a £10,000 grant to help parents serving time in British prisons to record messages for their children. It also deployed the same service to armed forces serving overseas. Many others also won grants for similarly clever uses of modern technology.

Dido Harding, CEO of TalkTalk, said:
“There are many more examples of work being carried out by TalkTalk’s Digital Heroes stretching back over the last five years, and we can be proud as a company to have been the catalyst for so much good work.
This year’s awards are bigger and better than ever. We have a new category for children and young people, aged 18 years and under, with the winner receiving £4,000 for their chosen charity and an Apple MacBook Air computer, and we have launched a fun competition where children aged 12 years and under can send in their drawings of what a Digital Hero might look like.”
The awards are done in association with Citizens Online, The Mirror and supported by Go ON UK. Nominations are open until Friday 15th September 2012 and voting will carry on until 5th November.
