PlusNet, Virgin Media and Sky Broadband Top Simplifydigital 2013 ISP Awards

Friday, April 5th, 2013 (8:23 am) - Score 1,930
best broadband

The annual Simplifydigital.co.uk Customer Choice Awards 2013, which took place this week, have awarded most of this year’s accolades to Sky Broadband, PlusNet and Virgin Media. Budget ISP TalkTalk also picked up the Innovation Award for being the first to launch a new TV service based off the YouView (IPTV) technology.

Apparently the website reached its conclusions (here) by conducting an email survey of 900 customers whom had all switched to a new ISP within the last 12 months.

Overall 86% of the respondents said that they were generally satisfied with their internet provider and 90% were satisfied with their broadband speeds.

Simplifydigital.co.uk Customer Choice Awards 2013

Best Value Broadband: PlusNet

Best Superfast Broadband: Virgin Media

Best Premium TV, Broadband & Phone: Virgin Media

Best Digital TV Provider: Sky Broadband

Best Value TV, Broadband & Phone: Sky Broadband

In general 90% of PlusNet’s customers were generally satisfied and over 80% felt that the service offered “good” or “very good” value for money. Meanwhile 78% of those who switched to Virgin Media over the past 12 months said their speeds were either “good” or “very good”.

Finally 87% of customers who switched to Sky Broadband were generally satisfied with its service, although interestingly the satisfaction score for TalkTalk isn’t mentioned. It would certainly be good to get a fuller summary of the results for each provider.

As usual it’s important to remember that Simplifydigital only tends to focus upon the largest providers, and those that agree a commission system for being listed, which means that the study results aren’t likely to give a full reflection of the entire market and all of its many other /often higher quality smaller ISPs (e.g. Zen Internet, AAISP etc.).

I’m soon to move to Plusnet now that my area has FTTC, and it seems every other Tom, Dick, and Harriet is as well. I look forward to the future with them when they start to kick heavy users(yes I know they’re “unlimited”) and the free entertainment that will provide. 😉
