ISP BeyonDSL has reached an agreement with its supplier SES (SES Broadband) to re-brand its broadband service to Satellite Internet, which will allow them to offer download speeds of up to 20Mbps (Megabits per second) to practically the whole of the United Kingdom.
BeyonDSL recently came under pressure after Eutelsat began promoting faster 20Mbps services via the KA-SAT based spacecraft (here). As a result SES and BeyonDSL have responded by offering a 20Mbps solution of their own via the Ka-band based SES ASTRA 2F satellite located at the orbital position 28.2 degrees East.
Patrick Biewer, MD of SES Broadband Services, said:
“We are delighted to extend our new high-speed satellite internet service to consumers in the UK and Ireland together with our long-standing partner BeyonDSL. We are convinced that our new Ka-band solution presents a great alternative to users who do not have access to terrestrial broadband offers.”
Mike Locke, MD of BeyonDSL, added:
“Our service, ‘Satellite Internet’, with up to 20 Mbit/s download speeds is another step in our continuing mission to offer competitive and affordable high-speed satellite internet packages for customers throughout the UK and Ireland. Both SES Broadband Services and BeyonDSL are committed to the further development of high-speed satellite internet for customers with limited or no access to this indispensable technology.”
The 20Mbps ValuePlus (20M20) package costs from £49.99 per month with a 20GB (GigaByte) usage allowance and upload speeds of either 1Mbps or 2Mbps. Customer can reset the usage allowance for £35 and a similar package with a 50GB allowance is also available for £139.99 per month.
A one-off £29.99 activation fee also applies and customers who take out a 24 month contract get the equipment for free (otherwise it costs £169.99); although you’ll still need to pay for the installation (prices vary but expect to pay around £149 or more).
The packages also come with FreeZone included, which effectively provides unlimited overnight data usage between 23:00 and 07:00 UK time. It should be said that Satellite Internet also offers cheaper packages. Prices start at just £16.99 per month for their 2Mbps service with a 2GB usage allowance and VoIP calls can be added to all of the packages for an extra £7.
