A Policy and Resources committee meeting of the Dumfries and Galloway Council in Scotland has confirmed that the local authority will commit £12.6 million to help make superfast broadband ISP connectivity available to 85% of local premises by 2015.
The target, which forms part of the South of Scotland Broadband Plan but also appears to be below the UK government’s national 90% coverage aim for the end of 2015, still represents an improvement from the original goal of just 75% availability in each local authority area.

Cllr Ivor Hyslop said:
“Supporting and stimulating our local economy is one of our Council’s Priorities. Our investment in the rollout of superfast Broadband to 85% of our region illustrates our commitment to assisting homes and businesses across Dumfries and Galloway. Our Council remains committed to working with those communities in the final 15% to ensure that they are not left disadvantaged in this first phase of the project.”
Sadly the press release didn’t have anything else to add.
