A new RootMetrics study of Mobile Broadband performance in Hull (East Yorkshire, England) has revealed that EE was the fastest mobile operator with an average download speed of 9.6Mbps and an upload of 5.5Mbps (Megabits per second). Three UK became the distant runner-up with O2 and Vodafone delivering the slowest performance.
The study claims to have conducted 28,000 mobile performance tests and also looked at other areas of mobile connectivity, including reliability and the performance of voice calls and TXT messages. But first let’s take a look at how everybody did for internet performance.

It’s worth noting that Three UK did come top for reliability (97.3 out of 100), followed closely by EE (95.4). But sadly O2 (86.2) and Vodafone (74.3) were left to trail. As for the other areas..
Hull – Best Operator for Calls
1. O2 (94)
2. EE (91)
3. Three UK (88)
4. Vodafone (78)Hull – Best Operator for TXTs
1. EE (95) Tied
2. O2 (95) Tied
3. Three UK (94)
4. Vodafone (91)
It’s no surprise to find that EE comes top for mobile broadband performance as they’re currently the only operator able to field a 4G network, although we suspect that the situation will change once their rivals have deployed similar infrastructure.
However speed is only half the equation for consumers and it’s worth remembering that Three UK, which generally did quite well, still offers both cheaper and more flexible packages.
