Mobile operator Three UK has managed to restore its “Ultrafast” 3.9G 3G based Mobile Broadband platform after a significant number of their customers around the country found themselves unable to access the Internet.
The issue, which appeared to begin yesterday evening in London before spreading out across various parts of the United Kingdom, did not affect the operators voice and text (txt) messaging services. Thankfully it’s now been fixed and a tweet from Three UK said, “The data issue has been resolved across the UK 🙂 We’re so sorry to those who were affected!”.
Unfortunately the operator has remained coy about the cause, although we noted from a test on one of our 3G devices that it appeared to fail on the IP address configuration phase that follows immediately after authentication. In other words the authentication process appeared to work but no IP address could be assigned afterwards.
