BT has upgraded its secure online Cloud (BTCloud) storage and backup service, which is added free for all of their broadband customers in the United Kingdom (though the storage space varies between packages), to include a number of new features.
The new features include support for Windows Phone 8 devices via their new mobile app and the addition of a sync folder, which gives customers the “flexibility to create, edit and view files from any device” (e.g. users can seamlessly start writing a document on one computer and continue or view it on another).

BT also claims to have made it easier to share pictures and videos with friends and family. The latest version of BTCloud allows users to share folders as well as files, so customers can “simply tick a folder and share it by email or via Facebook and Twitter“. A variety of improvements to the navigation system and layout have also been made.
Dave McDonald, BT Consumer, said:
“BT Cloud has proved to be a great success. Nearly a quarter of a million customers have signed up since we launched 10 months ago and more than 355,000 apps and desktop clients have been downloaded. We’ve listened to what our customers have been telling us and made BT Cloud even better.”
In terms of actual storage space, customers who take BT’s cheapest broadband package will get 2GB (GigaBytes) of Cloud storage and those whom pick their top 76Mbps BTInfinity (FTTC) option receive an impressive 50GB.
However it should be noted that the service will be stopped and all files deleted if a customer doesn’t use it for 90 days, which seems a little harsh if your offering it as a “secure” backup. In our view secure should also mean safe from deletion for a much longer period of time.
