TelecityGroup has today announced a new deal with The Loop (Gamma), which has resulted in a 5km extension of the now 82km (50 miles) long and 1Gbps+ capable fibre optic network that serves businesses around the city of Manchester.
The originally 77km long network was first installed by Atlantic Telecom to support the 2002 Commonwealth Games and ended up being left neglected after the operator went bust. But after a decade of sitting idle Gamma resurrected it (here) and has just added an extra 5km to the multi-fibre, low latency, high speed network, which now provides direct connections between TelecityGroup’s key data centre locations in Manchester.

Ashley Griffiths, Managing Director of The Loop, said:
“Working with TelecityGroup to deliver this extension of our fibre network will enable us to provide broader data centre connectivity and wider services to the Manchester business community. This new infrastructure will bring increased benefits to the local economy and supports Manchester’s ambition to be one of the top 20 digital cities in the world by 2020. It’s a great endorsement to be chosen by Telecity.”
The Loop, which solely focusses on Greater Manchester, is based in Trafford Park where more than 100 staff are located. The network circles the city centre and stretches out to Eccles in the West, towards Oldham in the North, Stretford in the South and Gorton in the East.
