The £27.67m Digital Derbyshire scheme, which is working with the Broadband Delivery UK programme, the EU and BT to make faster “fibre broadband” (FTTC/P) services available to 95% of local premises by the end of 2016, has announced another new batch of areas that are due for upgrade by this autumn 2014.
The project, which is also working on plans to extend its “superfast broadband” coverage to reach 99% of local homes and businesses by 2017, has already made the network available to an additional 2,200 homes and businesses under Phase One of the deployment via 16 new green roadside street cabinets in locations like Markham Vale, Bolsover, Tibshelf, Holmewood, Ilkeston and Alfreton.

But now it’s time for Phase Two of the roll-out, which will run over the next two months.

In addition, it’s noted that work is also continuing to upgrade the local Grindleford Telephone Exchange, which will bring the new service to more than 1,600 premises in Hathersage, Grindleford and Hope Valley by autumn 2014.
Take note that BT’s £2.5bn commercial UK deployment has already made their “fibre broadband” service available to more than 337,000 Derbyshire homes and businesses, while the state aid supported scheme above intends to add an extra 88,000 to that (not including the tentative plans to expand coverage to 99%).
Overall around 750,000 metres of fibre optic cable will be laid by BT in Derbyshire and approximately 445 new green street cabinets will be installed at roadsides throughout the county.
