Commuters travelling to and from London St Pancras on East Midlands Trains will be pleased to know that a new £200,000 upgrade deal with Nomad Digital should result in significantly improved on-board WiFi Internet connectivity.
East Midlands Trains already offer complimentary WiFi in a number of First Class Lounges and at numerous stations across the network, although everybody else usually has to pay a small fee. But until recently the service suffered from patchy reliability issues due to “black spots” in the network coverage, which the upgrade aims to resolve.
Neil Micklethwaite, EMTs Customer Service and Commercial Director, said:
“East Midlands Trains was one of the first operators in the country to offer WiFi to our passengers back in 2010 and since then we have introduced free WiFi at many of our stations and in our first class lounges. This £200,000 investment ensures our passengers can continue to enjoy the latest technology, including 4G, providing a better and more reliable WiFi on our London services.
We have also reduced or frozen the vast majority of our WiFi charges as well as introducing a brand new ‘anytime’ bundle from next month, meaning our passengers can make the most of their time travelling with us at an affordable price.”
A bit of digging around reveals that the charges for On-Board WiFi in Standard Class cabins is £4 for journeys of up to 3 hours, £6 for daily usage, £30 for monthly usage (valid for 28 days) and £300 for an annual pass. Apparently the new ‘Anytime’ bundle, which is due to be introduced next month, will give you 10 hours of WiFi that can be used at any time during a 30 day period; sadly no price is given for this.
