Gigaclear, an independent fibre optic (FTTP) broadband ISP, has recently become the latest Internet provider to announce that their prices are rising by 4.8% (RPI + 2% at the time of calculation) from 1st January 2015, which in fairness is the first time they’ve increased their prices in roughly four years.
On the other hand Gigaclear’s services need to be priced in a way that helps to make the case for private investment to support their roll-out of Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) technology in remote rural communities. Not to mention that the total price is a lot fairer when you compare it with rivals, which often also charge for line rental as a separate service.
Gigaclear Statement
Most people are surprised when they look closely at their monthly or quarterly telephone bill and see what they actually have to pay for. We are all sold on the low monthly cost for broadband, but in reality your bill is usually made up of another 3 or 4 additional monthly costs, which when combined amount to a much higher bill. With Gigaclear there are no monthly surcharges or extras, the price you see is the price you pay.
With copper based broadband, rural residents will pay the same price as urban residents for their ‘up to’ speed packages even though they receive considerably slower speeds. With our fibre-to-the-premises service, everyone, regardless of distance from the cabinet, receives the same level of service. The speed you subscribe to is the speed that is delivered. On the Home50 (H50) service you will see 50Mbps for download and 50Mbps for uploads. If you need more, just upgrade your package, anytime, to 100, 200 or 1000Mbps, its ready for you when you need it.
On top of the significant speed differences to the copper based ‘fibre broadband’ services, there is no line rental and no usage charge to pay with Gigaclear. We believe in transparent pricing and packages, the monthly price you see is the only price you pay.
So what’s changing? Generally speaking all of their broadband services have increased by a small amount, for example the symmetrical 50Mbps package will soon become £38.80 per month instead of £37 today and their 100Mbps service will similarly go from £42 today to £44 per month in January.
The same trend follows for Gigaclear’s other packages and a special pricing page has now been setup to reflect these changes (here).
