Industry sources inform ISPreview.co.uk that BTOpenreach will later today or tomorrow announced another round of seemingly significant price reductions for their business Ethernet services, such as the Ethernet Access Direct (EAD) and Ethernet Backhaul Direct (EBD) products. Better yet, we’ve been given a sneaky peek.
Officially Openreach already announced some of their planned price changes during December 2014 (here), which are due to be introduced from 1st April 2015. But this didn’t include everything and the following leak appears to offer an early insight into the pricing that they’re about to unveil for the above named services.
The screen grab stems from an industry forum event that was held today and key ISPs have now been made aware of the changes, although as we understand it the wider public aren’t going to be told until after 4:30pm. But now you don’t have to wait, although admittedly this will only matter to businesses and ISPs.
We had hoped to include a comment from Openreach too, but so far they haven’t responded to any of our earlier queries. Never the less we’ll update this article once the official update is made public.
UPDATE 21st Jan 2015
The official public announcement of Openreach’s price reductions is now online (here), although the stated % differences are less than above because the operator contrasts with their 2014 prices in the public doc instead of the 2013 ones like they did privately above (values / prices remain the same though).
Openreach statement:
“Further reductions to our strategic Ethernet products are announced today, building on reductions over the last two years. These are expected to continue to help Communication Provider customers grow existing markets and improve price competitiveness. These changes will come into effect on 1 April 2015.”
It’s also noted that Bulk Transport Link (BTL) charges for the one year term products will be reduced by 9% on average.
