Customers of the broadband based BT TV (YouView) service may be pleased to know that the operator claims to have become the first UK Pay TV provider to offer customers the chance to buy-to-keep the box set of ‘Game of Thrones’ and other premium programmes through a partnership with HBO.
As a result customers will be able to download ‘Game of Thrones‘ (starting with seasons 1-4, season 5 to follow), as well as the complete box set of comedy series ‘Entourage‘ and the first season of crime drama ‘True Detective‘. All episodes can be viewed on BT TV’s set-top-boxes and are also available for customers to watch via their smartphones, tablets or PCs (either instantly or downloading for viewing on the move).

Alex Green, Director of BT TV, said:
“This is yet another fantastic first for our customers. We are committed to offering the widest choice of on demand and live content, with pricing and flexibility to suit all our customers. The new deal with HBO comes at the perfect time for people who want to catch up with world-class TV shows over the long Bank Holiday weekend. But of course you get to keep them so you can watch over and over again.”
However in the United Kingdom you’d still need access to the Sky Atlantic TV channel in order to see the live streamed premier of GoT Season 5 or the forthcoming True Detective Season 2, which requires either a subscription via Sky TV (Sky Broadband) or Sky’s NOW TV streaming service (the latter is just £6.99 per month).
