Subscribers to Virgin Media’s UK cable broadband bundles have told ISPreview.co.uk that the provider’s retentions / support department is warning of an incoming price change next month, with some customers being expected to pay around +£3 more for their current package.
At present we only have feedback from a handful of customers with similar bundles (i.e. mostly those who have a contract due to expire in August) and none of them appears to have received a notification letter about the change. However the operator does have a history of announcing annual price rises between the months of July and November (variable).
A spokesperson for Virgin Media told ISPreview.co.uk, “As always, if we need to make any changes to our pricing we’ll let our customers know in a timely and transparent way by writing to them and clearly outlining the details ” (i.e. the letters will go out before we get any details).
Separately we understand that the operator will be making some changes to their product offerings and prices for new customers (expected this week), which perhaps lends some weight to the feedback we’ve received. No doubt we’ll find out soon enough.
UPDATE 1st August 2017
As expected the prices for new Virgin Media customers have been tweaked, with most rising but only a little. For example, the standalone 50Mbps broadband package has increased from £32.25 to £33 per month and similarly their top 300Mbps option has gone from £47.25 to £48. Bigger increases may be spotted on some of the larger bundles.
The changes only impact new customers, although it probably won’t be long before existing customers are told to expect an increase too.
UPDATE 1st August 2017 12:27pm
Virgin has now unveiled a price rise for existing customers too (here).
