CEO of UK ISP Hyperoptic Wins Outstanding FTTH Contribution Award

Wednesday, Mar 13th, 2019 (1:52 pm) - Score 1,148

The co-founder and CEO of urban fibre optic broadband ISP Hyperoptic, Dana Tobak, has today won an award for her “outstanding contribution” to the acceleration of Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) broadband technology in Europe as part of the annual FTTH Conference in Amsterdam.

As most of our readers will know Hyperoptic have been bringing 1Gbps capable FTTB / FTTP broadband connections to large urban apartments and office buildings since around 2011, albeit with significantly fewer resources than bigger rivals and at a much lower price point. In fact until recently the ISP was the largest UK provider of “full fibre” style services to consumers, although Openreach’s FTTP roll-out has since surpassed them.

Today Hyperoptic’s network covers more than 500,000 premises (mostly homes) in around 39 UK cities and towns (rising to 50 this year). The ISP has also managed to create an investment pot of £500m, which will be used to help cover 2 million UK premises by 2021 and there’s even an aspiration for 5 million by 2024 (here).

Ronan Kelly, President of the FTTH Council Europe, said:

“Hyperoptic’s networks is expanding at an incredible speed. It has been growing its network reach by over 100% for the last three years in a row and as the driving force behind this, the FTTH Council Europe wanted to acknowledge Dana’s tremendous work in making FTTH more accessible.”

Pascal Koster, CTIO of Hyperoptic, said:

“To be recognised by her industry peers means a great deal to Dana. When she co-founded Hyperoptic it was with the aim to shake up the UK broadband sector, which had been neglected for too long with a compelling full fibre offering. With her team, Hyperoptic is delivering on this vision and we look forward to continue working with our partners in the industry to deliver the full fibre broadband the UK needs.”

End.
