ISPA UK Asks – Who is Your Internet Hero and Villain for 2019

The Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) has opened public nominations for this year’s ‘Internet Villain’ and ‘Internet Hero’ categories, which will form part of their annual 2019 awards event that is due to be held on the 11th July 2019 at the Sheraton Grand Park Lane Hotel in London.

Last year saw the Director of Liberty, Martha Spurrier, pick-up the Internet Hero award for their successful high court challenge of the controversial 2016 Investigatory Powers Act (internet snooping).

However it’s a little more challenging to know who might be nominated for either the Hero or Villain award this year, although there have been plenty of related topics around Facebook (Mark Zuckerberg), Huawei (i.e. Donald Trump, China etc.), the Online Harms White Paper (censorship), the Porn Block (online age verification), implementation of DNS over HTTPS (DoH) and so forth (some of those could fall into either category, depending upon perception).
