New Rules for Speeding Up Certain Broadband Installs is Causing Delays UPDATE

The government’s new changes to the Building Safety Regulator’s (BSR) approval processes in England (here) are causing additional delays to some of Openreach’s new broadband installs. Ironically the changes are being introduced to correct for the delays and increased costs of telecoms operators trying to deploy new networks into large buildings (MDUs etc.) under the prior system.

TV Broadcasters, Banks and UK Telecoms Providers Unite to Get Everyone Online UPDATE

Britain’s major banks, charities, TV broadcasters, broadband and mobile providers have today united to back a new report from the Connection Project, which calls for “coordinated action to ensure everyone” can get online and take part in a modern economy. But this is not the first time we’ve seen coordinated action on the subject.

ISPA Reveal First Finalists for the 2026 UK ISP Internet Industry Awards

The UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) has today unveiled the shortlist of finalists for their 2026 annual industry awards event, which sees 70 separate organisations (broadband ISPs, network builders etc.) being nominated across 13 “revised categories“. But a few categories won’t be finalised until a little later.

Building Controls Updated to Fix Stalled Fibre Broadband Rollouts for Big Buildings UPDATE

The Ministry of Housing (MHCLG) and UK ISP Association (ISPA) have today unveiled crucial changes to address the current problem with the Building Safety Regulator’s (BSR) approval processes in England, which are known to have caused big delays and increased costs for broadband and mobile operators trying to deploy full fibre networks into large buildings (MDUs etc.).

ISPA May Support Direct UK Gov Intervention on Broadband Social Tariffs

The UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) has said they’re “considering” taking a firmer public position on the issue of cheaper Social Tariffs for broadband services, which could result in the organisation pushing for “direct government intervention” to help improve take-up for those who can’t currently afford such plans.

Gov Publish Response to Revision of UK Telecommunications Security Code

The UK Government (DSIT) has today published its response to a planned revision of the Telecommunications Security Code of Practice (2022), which will update the code to reflect changes in what sort of specific security measures public telecoms providers (broadband, mobile etc.) must take in order to protect their networks from attack.

Government Reveal Progress of UK Digital Inclusion Action Plan After 1 Year

The UK Government has published its first annual progress report on their new Digital Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP), which was launched in Feb 2025 alongside support from various broadband and mobile providers. The plan contained a series of “urgent actions” that it hoped would “begin fixing digital exclusion“ and the new report appears to be broadly positive.

The UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA) has today kicked off their annual hunt for the best broadband ISPs and internet companies ahead of their forthcoming 2026 awards event (the 28th one they’ve held), although this time around they don’t appear to have made too many changes to the categories.

The night’s biggest winners included CommunityFibre, Lightning Fibre, and Wightfibre, each of which took home multiple awards. The former CEO of CityFibre, Greg Mesch, was also named ‘Internet Hero‘.

The UK Government’s Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT) has proposed to update their Telecommunications Security Code of Practice (2022). This sets out what sort of specific security measures public telecoms providers (broadband, mobile etc.) must take in order to protect their networks from attack and data breaches.

Except the “Internet Hero” and “Digital Inclusion” categories, which will be announced later this year.

ISPA Study Claims 72 Percent of UK Backs Continued Investment in Broadband

The UK Internet Service Providers Association (ISPA), which is a trade body representing ISPs and related comms providers, has today published the results of a new nationally representative poll. This found that 72% of people believe it’s important for broadband providers to keep upgrading networks and 62% were willing to accept short-term traffic disruption for long-term improvements.
