Community Fibre Sign First ISP to FTTP Network in London – Glemnet

Full fibre provider Community Fibre, which is aiming to cover more than 500,000 premises with their 10Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) broadband network by the end of 2022, appears to have signed its first known ISP partner – Glemnet – in the UK capital city to help serve local businesses (B2B).

At present CF’s network already covers nearly 100,000 premises in London and that mostly consists of large apartment blocks (predominantly social housing), although the operator can also serve business customers with speeds of up to 10Gbps (residential plans currently max out at the 1Gbps level). Until now CF has been the only ISP able to offer connections on their own network (that we know of) to both homes and businesses.

The good news is that it looks like CF may be branching out a bit more, not least by signing a new partnership deal with Cloud-based telephony systems and ISP Glemnet, which intends to harness the new network in order to offer speeds of between 1Gbps and 10Gbps to their business customers in London (starting from £299 +vat per month on a 36 month term).

Community Fibre’s wider rollout plan for businesses may enable providers, such as Glemnet, to provide “full fibre” connectivity to customers in areas where it was previously unavailable, such as parts of South London.

Neil Linter, CEO of Glemnet, says:

“We are thrilled to be able to bring to the B2B market such a compelling full-fibre business broadband offering and help businesses of all sizes with their internet requirements.

We look forward to working with Community Fibre to bring best of breed fibre services to our existing and new customers.”

Graeme Oxby, CEO of Community Fibre, says:

“We are excited to be working with Glemnet to roll out the fastest 100% full fibre offering in London to businesses across the capital.

Our network is built to service 40k London’s businesses with fibre connectivity up to 10 Gbps. As we continue to expand our b2b partner programme, we look forward to launching this new offering alongside Glemnet, whose customers will now benefit from access to our high-speed broadband, alongside the vital telephony and IT systems and services they receive.”

By the sounds of it this may represent some sort of wholesale or reseller agreement, although the press release doesn’t explicitly say that. We have asked and are awaiting a response.

Talking to their network designers a few months back the general strategy is to expand from their existing PoP’s

That isn’t to say that they won’t create new PoP’s it is just that costs wise tacking onto existing backhaul is cheaper than running new from scratch. And given they don’t charge fortunes for the service they need to keep costs under control.

At some point between Hyper and CF all the MDU’s South of the River will be done so there will have to be a move North of the river and given the desire to up the rate of roll out that *might* happen sooner rather than later.

Try asking them…..and register an interest…..they are mostly identifiable as human beings at CF…..
