Fibre optic broadband ISP Grain Connect has announced a new agreement with property developer This Land™, which will see them roll-out their 1Gbps capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network across the developer’s future new build homes schemes in Cambridgeshire (England).
The first project to benefit will be a sustainable development of 53 homes in the popular village of Over near Cambridge. Grain also expects to offer the same level of connection to neighbouring homes, hospitals and schools “outside of the development“, working closely with the local community to improve connectivity.
Going forward This Land™ plans to develop around 1,600 new homes within the next 5 years. The developer’s funding model is also quite “unique” from other housing developers, not least because its sole shareholder is Cambridgeshire County Council (i.e. the revenue that is returned to the Council supports the delivery of front-line services).
Rich Robinson, MD of Grain Connect, said:
“We’re very excited to be announcing our partnership with This Land™ and our commitment to supply full fibre, hyperfast broadband to their developments in Cambridgeshire. They match our sustainable ethos, and we can’t wait to start working with them.”
Grain itself recently raised £10m in additional equity finance from Albion Capital (Albion Real Assets Fund) to help fund their future growth. Meanwhile packages on their FTTP/H network tend to start at £25 per month for an unlimited 50Mbps connection and this rises to £55 for 1000Mbps (add +£5 per month if you want a phone service).
