Urban full fibre ISP Hyperoptic has walked away with two more trophies, this time from the 2020 Compare The Market Simples Awards where they picked up wins under both the “Best Broadband Service” and “Best Broadband Innovation” categories.
Unlike other awards these were only judged by a small panel of judges, which included three journalists, two people from the finance / insurance industry and the Commercial Director at comparethemarket.com (Simon McCulloch). Sadly no feedback from actual customers was considered and there’s no detail whatsoever on why specific providers were picked, although Hyperoptic are known to be a generally good ISP.
Otherwise the Service Award recognised providers that have actively helped customers remove some of the pressures of making financial decisions. The Innovation Award recognises providers that have implemented technologies and tools to make using their product simpler, more intuitive and time-efficient.

One oddity in this year’s event was the fact that Onestream is named as the runner-up for innovation, although we can’t think of anything that would mark that out for an award in that category (hence why such awards would really benefit from some descriptions to help explain the judges’ reasoning). We also don’t know which ISPs were originally short-listed. Take with the usual pinch of salt.
