Broadband ISP Virgin Media has joined Sky (Sky Broadband, Sky TV) in reaching a new agreement with Universal Pictures, which means that NBCUniversal titles that are currently in theatrical release will also be available on-demand to customers via Virgin’s Store from today.
The move reflects Universal’s response to the rapid spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19), which has resulted in many cinemas having to shut their doors as more people self-isolate at home. As with Sky (here), the releases on Virgin Media’s platform will be priced at £15.99 per movie (covers a rental period of 48 hours).
Initially customers will be able to access three films including The Hunt, The Invisible Man and Emma. DreamWorks Animation’s newest film, Trolls World Tour, will then follow on 6th April 2020. David Bouchier, Chief Digital Entertainment Officer at VM, said: “In these challenging times, its great news for our customers that they won’t be missing out on the latest cinema releases. At a click of a button, friends and families can sit back, relax and enjoy the latest blockbusters from the comfort of their sofa.”
