Fixed wireless and fibre optic broadband ISP Voneus has appointed industry veteran Mike Quinn to lead the development of their new gigabit-capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) roll-out across parts of the United Kingdom, which is being fuelled by last year’s injection (here) of up to £30m from Macquarie Capital.
Quinn has previously held senior operational roles at Mercury Communications, FLAG Telecom, Vtesse Networks and Gigaclear. On top of that he has also provided project and programme management services to blue-chip clients whilst working as a consultant, and was a key player in rival “full fibre” ISP Zzoomm becoming operational.
The provider is currently hoping to expand their network coverage to reach 900,000 premises, although the exact time-scale and technology split for that aspiration remains unclear.
Steve Leighton, CEO at Voneus, said:
“Our ultimate aim has always been to deliver decent broadband to those on the wrong side of the country’s digital divide – be that via fixed wireless access, fibre, or indeed any other technology that best fits the bill.
We are hugely excited to have Mike on board and to leverage his expertise as we continue in this important stage of the company’s strategy. His appointment demonstrates our continued efforts to ensure people living and working in remote areas are afforded a level playing field in terms of their connectivity.”
End.
