Customers of mobile operator Three UK have been given a boost at London Gatwick Airport after VodafoneThree deployed their Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) technology across the site, which enables Three’s customers to harness Vodafone’s existing 4G and 5G+ capable mobile (mobile broadband) network – part of the on-going network integration work.
Back in 2022 Vodafone deployed dedicated network coverage across both the airport’s North and South terminals, which was more recently upgraded to support their latest 5G+ (5G Standalone) technology for even faster performance. Suffice to say that Three UK’s customers should now be able to benefit from this too. London Gatwick is the country’s second-busiest airport, receiving around 43 million passengers each year.
The change forms part of VodafoneThree’s post-merger plan to invest £11bn into upgrading their 5G mobile infrastructure and coverage over the next decade (here, here and here). As part of that they’ve committed to reach more than 99.96% of the UK’s population with their 5G+ network by 2034 (99% by 2030) and to push fixed wireless access (mobile home broadband) to 82% of households by 2030, among other things.

Just the three?
Wow! Actual usable mobile coverage at a major UK international airport? Just like they have in developing nations? I’ll believe it when I experience it.
After 12 years of complaining, nice1. What about Stansted, can we get the same before 2050?
Yet I’m on Three with rubbish signal and the wife on Vodafone with great 5g
So much for merge
